Montagnetta Milano is a specific, but very exciting race that always brings a lot of competition. Race close to famous San Siro stadium also brings a lot of fans of cycling out in the park where they cheer for competitors.
This was Tanja’s first race of 2017 season, and she traveled to Milano without any pressure. She was fifth, which is a very solid result, but what is even more important – she enjoyed racing and is now even more motivated for the “real” start of the season.
Race report from Tanja Žakelj: “I would say I had a smart start of the race, I didn’t want to go crazy as I knew how hard the track for me is and I didn’t want to use too much of my power. I came to the good position right away and more or less I kept that place all the way to the end. Track in Milano is very specific, with short and steep climbs … well, I guess you can expect anything else in the park in the middle of the city.
Fastest riders didn’t escape, I saw how strong I am and I kept them in my view for a lot of time. With some luck I could maybe even get more out of this race.
Race was short, but fun. I’m not far behind the strongest. I’m up there with them and this is what is important now. I loved being on the race again, and I’m fully motivated for the next races.”
Tanja was fifth, 1:46 behind race winner Maja Wloszczowska.
