Narvacan Mountain Bike Challenge is part of national DH series, called Commencal Philippine Downhill Series, and the race is like you imagine – under the sun, next to the beach, with the relaxed atmosphere. But positive surprise is the local scene that is developing in every possible way.
Jure came to Narvacan, place in the northern part of this island country, to race Narvacan Mountain Bike Challenge, ride with locals and MTB agency Ride Philippines, enjoy the life on the beach, etc. You know how this goes.
Jure won 1,7 km long downhill race easily, with big gap ahead of local riders and guests from UK – Ben Deakin and Olly Wilkins (for sure you will see lots of videos from them). Jure took his Trek Slash with him and left Session at home, which makes this victory even sweeter.
Jure Žabjek: “The race itself was very much different from what I’m used to. Steep track is full of tight corners, especially in the top part. Ground looks like hard soil and it should have grip, but in reality it was very slippery. I had some problems, but the views are great.
I took both runs, both with big gaps. Atmosphere in the finish line was unbelievable! It took me forever to take pictures with everybody. People here on the island are great, I’m so happy I decided to go on this trip.”
Congratulations also to fellow Slovenian Iztok Slapnik, he was fastest in the 30-39 age group. Iztok is founder of Ride Philippines, a go to place if you would like to do proper mountain biking there!
