The hardest DH race in the World was even harder because of the rain, so even the best riders out there struggled with staying on the bike. Taylor Vernon first qualified for the 10-men finals, and then had a great final run – except for a crash that set him back to eight place.
Victory is the perfect way to round up the season, and that’s exactly what Jure Žabjek did – on the last race of the Unior DH Cup on the legendary track in Maribor! Žiga Pandur was just behind him, in the overall standings they took first and third.
It was perfect set for the last race of the iXS European Cup season. Jure Žabjek kind of made a breakthrough on the World Cup in Leogang and was now back again on the same venue – this time to claim overall victory of the European series.
The last big race of the championships and 2017 season is now behind us and we got new rainbow jersey owners. It’s true that we’re silently hoping for at least one top result – Rudy & Jure almost spoiled us with amazing results in the season – but we’re nevertheless really happy for both of them. They finished with a good race & fast riding, but with too many mistakes to get any higher.
Wonderful finish of the season for Tanja Žakelj – she was 10th on the World Championships in Cairns! Competition was hard on this though course in Smithfield MTB park, but she rode smart and with perfect lines on the technical section and deserved the top result. She also got motivation boost that will last for the whole winter season.
Tanja's last race of the UCI MTB World Cup didn't go according to goals and whishes – 26th place from Val di Sole is her by far the worst result of the season, Tanja just couldn't do any better. There are still a lot of positive sides of the day, first of all – and most important – is that she didn't loose much in the overall standings and is now 14th. At the same time we are all already looking towards Cairns, the track there is certainly more to her likings.
Rudy 16th on the World Cup finals in Val di Sole, Jure 14th overall, Rudy 17th overall, Taylor 30th overall (3 riders in top-30!), 15th team of the season... And bunch of great results in the today's finals. What a season – congratulations to ALL riders and thanks to ALL that support us!!!
Hard work on the trainings and fighting spirit delivers great results – and this is how Tanja Žakelj today finished the World Cup race deep in the top-10! She was also seventh on the 2016 Mont-Sainte-Anne race, which is a great result and kick-off point for the last race of the series and the world champs.
